It's ironic how mean the witnesses can be. Some are sweet as peaches and others are like the gestapo.

Rutherford named the bible students "Jehovah's Witnesses." The 144,000 rule over the earth during the thousand year reign of Christ over the survivors of Armageddon, the number of which is emmense but no one knows how many. There are about 8 million witnesses so they don't all believe they are going to heaven, almost none do.

I was raised JW and even though I left 15 years ago, I have never considered them a cult, but I guess you're right, if that's the definition, they're a cult 🤷 lol also, in my experience, people usually stayed very close to the people they studied with. Edit: I must say, the second half of Sunday meeting's aren't a big secret, the meeting is absolutely open to the public and you're welcome to stay, it's just shit that doesn't pertain to anyone who doesn't already have an understanding of the religion. And you are correct about the unspoken "ranking" of JW kids, though I think it's more of a judgement. The friends I had who had elder/pioneer parents also felt a tremendous amount of pressure was put upon them to be "good examples".

You are not alone. I found out in my early 30's that the man I was told was my dad wasn't. It took me almost 3 decades to solve the puzzle. There is hope. My bio-dad died in 2010, I figured out who he was in 2020. What! Your mother lied about who your father is? Been doing genealogy for 3.5 decades and that story line is so common. One of the most common ones. Happened with me, my mom, her sister and her mom, her mom's mom... My other half aunt and so on. Very similar stories here. I even tried using an Angle, but that went sideways. Anyway I sorted maternal to start, to eliminate those matches. Then I started sorting the paternal side into two groups, Dralles and Wardrips. I eventually used DNA Painter to triangulate where I fit in the trees; for the Dralles and Wardrips. I solved it. Used 23&Me to start out, then Ancestry. My mom lied, told half a dozen different stories and never anything close to the truth. I feel your pain.

My heart goes out to you. I'm sorry you had to go through this. I'm an ex JW. It's run by narcissistic men. I had a run in with some elders. I'd stopped going and felt guilty for years but I finally got past the brainwashing and I'm glad I'm free. On the other hand, I'm angry about how the elders have hurt innocent people. It's evil. And YOU did nothing wrong. You were a minor and was raped. Thanks for sharing and I hope you have found happiness. If you haven't, seek a therapist. Someone who understands cults.

There are only a few holes one thing that does annoy me is that the oldest tree I have from Syria only has the men’s names.? I found my GRANDMOTHER’s biological father using Ancestry, census records and any other means possible. Even managed to get a photograph of him eventually and he died in 1948! Miracles can happen! Keep going!

I am not JW, but when people complain about their church I wonder how much self-study of the Holy Bible they did as they will find truth there. Listening to church members and even some pastors is not the way to go. Study scripture for yourself!

I, too, am a search angel. Did your dad ever marry? You may have half-siblings out there. Check records for him and hope you can find wives or ex-wives.

I can relate. I'm 4th generation. Grandma, mom and step dad all disfellowshiped. Sexually abused by step father. Anytime u want to chat or text. My family 80% Jw"s.almost 100 people and the family started in 1930"s

The Watchtower Corporation has been spinning bible theology since the late 1800's, mostly out of sure ignorance and incompetence, but still in a endeavouring desire to sell literature to the public. Fact is none the top executive Presidents or GB members who self acknowledged themselves as bible scholars were never academically trained. 😳 This goes back to Russell of the late 1800's to the guy who took over the religious publishing house J Rutherford , who was Russell's personal lawyer. Surprisingly over time they did point some faults made by other Christian based faiths such as in Christmas and Easter but the core doctrine to which the name Jehovah's Witnesses was created around was fault with apostasy ( ie. Pyramidology, 1914, 1975 etc. ) in other words false prophesying . 😳 The intent toward proliferating literature that the organization published was the ongoing core agenda and that's the true reason why things got so tainted with self serving corruption. There was money $$$ being drawn in to which many people started to live off, including the GB members and their wives. 😳 The JWS claim to be the most righteous Christian organization on earth, Jah's chosen organization through their loyalty and strict bible adherence. Well that may be nothing of the truth actually because the most condemning thing for a person to do in Jehovah's eyes is claim to be an active self identifying Christian, baptized in Jesus's name but really be a sinning false prophet as Revelation 20:10 says ...... 10 And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

The very same in Islam for Muslim adherents is called _Taqiyya_ and is essentially identical. But predates the JW Watchtower society by well over 1000 years. Islam is just over 1,400 years old. It is true Malawi Jehovah’s Witnesses were killed for not registering to vote. Their New York headquarters changed their mind for Mexico JWs indicating it was okay to purchase a 50 cent card. Then merely ham their way through any aftermath.

So sorry to hear about your abuse, did you report it to the police, because it's a crime, not a sin as Watchtower labels it, and these criminals need to do time in prison. And it helps bring down and expose this dangerous cult.

Just started my journey... in my 50s. DNA kit hasn't even arrived yet and I've found some relatives I didn't know about from my maternal grandmother's trail of children. But I've no luck using the name for my father that my mother remembers. So, I'm hoping DNA might help me. I wanted to do it sooner, but something held me back. A few years ago I survived a heart attack and cardiac arrest, and now I'm no longer worried about what might happen.

How long it take for ancestry to send you the dna results

Thank you for being raw because I survived being under the scapegoating of a narcissistic mother within also our family was a little cult. Much the same though it's fundamental Christianity. We both have this internal restlessness that I get picked on about. People make fun of my PTSD/religious trauma symptoms

did you know if your not worried about killing grass or adding chemicals to the ground you could add maybe a cup ultra dawn or maybe a cup tide liquid deteregent to one of those tanks to increase fire effectiveness?? Note some of these chemicals may contain sulphuric acid ! Note it probably also has some degree of alcohol dont drink it !!!!

I applaud you for telling your painful story. We need to hear these stories because so many of us have been through the WT abuses. I was a JW when the world was going to be destroyed by Jehovah in 1975. Though there have been so many many changes due to sudden or painfully slow “New Light”, the one thing that never changed was their “class system”, as you implied, of “ranks”and of CSA. My own young husband, a JW, drove an adult babysitter home one night and she fell madly in love with him for preaching to her. I was so innocent and trusting that I never knew about their affair until I was disfellowshipped for arguing and asking questions about the No Blood Doctrine to the elders. He was not disfellowshipped. So I understand your pain. I can see it was very hard for you to tell your story but you did an excellent job of it. Among us “Apostates”, know you are well-respected and I hope more and more people come forward with their experiences. We had a few recovering addicts among the younger people and dry alcoholics among the older men, but for the most part, they ladies were elitist and nice only while they were winning a recruit. After the “kill”, they could care less. Keep moving forward, you’re doing great! ❤

On the topic of “Jehovah’s witnesses are not a cult because they do not follow a specific leader” I feel its often missed that their leader that they follow (dead or alive) is Jehovah™️. In this sense he is not alive/ non existent. They form their image of what Jehovah is to them because they have creative control over the subject. Jehovah is whatever the governing body says Jehovah is. They create the rest around they’re undying love for this leader. And the scary part is that they hopefully wait for him the bring destruction to this word and to anihilate anyone who isn’t a loyally following their particular description of Jehovah. I personally feel that this is why they have continued to use this pronunciation of the Tetragrammaton because it helps people only find their information. In this sense, Jehovah is not YHWH, it is a specifically designed MLM product that they sell for everlasting life.
